The following is a compilation summary of remarks regarding Male Sexual Dysfunctions that was generously provided by, Laurence A Levine, MD, FACS Professor of Urology Rush University Chicago, Illinois: [Contact info below]
Erectile Dysfunction is a common disorder affecting up to 50% of men who are over 40 years old. In some cases it may be the earliest indicator of systemic vascular disease preceding heart disease by 4 years on average. There are a variety of effective treatments that address ED, from pills to surgical procedures.
Low testosterone or Male Hypogonadism occurs much more frequently than previously thought. In fact up to 40% of men over 45, and 50% of obese and diabetic men have suboptimal testosterone levels. This may cause side effects such as low energy, easy fatigability, diminished erections and libido problems, and over time, can affect muscle mass, bone mineral density and brain function. Topical and implantable testosterone can correct the low levels and often times improve quality of life. A simple set of blood tests is usually all that is needed to make a diagnosis.
